Living in a remote part of eastern New Mexico in the early 1930s must've been quite an experience for your father. Many remember that time and place fondly, but life was surely challenging. Of course, the Dust Bowl was having major impacts just to the east well into the mid-1930s. I imagine Dunlap experienced some dusty days, too.

I wish that I could tell you more about homesteads in the area, but I'm afraid information is very scarce. Perhaps someone else can provide advice on where to look but, in the meantime, I'll keep my eyes open and let you know if I come across anything.

Thanks again, and Happy New Year! He has passed away at 98 years and I wish I could ask him more about that time. I would also like to visit and would appreciate any advice on any documentation about the homesteads. It's true that there isn't much out there on the community, and I pretty much tossed everything I could find into the post! But I highly recommend a visit if you get the chance, particularly in the spring when the wildflowers are blooming. I find it a very evocative landscape.

Thanks again and best regards! I was just eating Thanksgiving dinner with friends and discussing our family history when I found your blog. This is the most detailed information I've ever been able to find about Dunlap, NM. W.O Dunlap was my great grandfather (Lewis Andrew Dunlap, grandfather) and I have not yet had the opportunity to visit the area.
