The Farmwalt's were our nearest neighbors. I remember riding through their ranch and checking on the wells that were all that remained of homesteads that were driven out by the dry years. My father operated the New Mexico Salt Co. just west of Lucy. I've never ...Thanks for the info, Kevin Helton! I've never been down B083E beyond Lucy, but I sure wish I would've gotten some shots of that truck and well rig! Not that I would've known to go wandering 1/2 mile into a random field! Nevertheless, I'm very pleased that you have the truck and are restoring it so lovingly. Keep us posted on your progress!

Best, JMjmhousehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07470407787311078380noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7921005.post-43801271220445978942016-09-26T18:37:29.422-05:002016-09-26T18:37:29.422-05:00Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. The truck ...Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. The truck was just five miles south on b083 from 60. Right where the pictures of buildings you took pictures of. The truck was in a field a half mile off the road. It had old wooden well drill that was stuck that held the truck there since 1944. My Wife's family was also homesteaders in the in the Lucy area. That's fantastic that your grandfather lived there, Charles Gabaldon. It's great to hear from someone with family ties to the little ghost town. That doesn't happen very often. Or ever!

Thanks very much for your comment! There are plenty of fascinating ways to get across New Mexico, many of which I haven't even had a chance to explore myself, much to my shame. But I know that drive down from MN because...I'm from Minneapolis myself!

In Arizona have you driven the Ghost Town Trail from Pearce through to Tombstone? That's a good one. I did some posts on it, which start HERE.

Anyway, thanks again, and happy trails in 2016! We usually try to take a slightly different route through NM on every trip, just because I love driving through these weathered old settlements. Thanks again? Was it down south in, say, Cedarvale, or was it just out in a barn in the countryside somewhere? I'm always immediately fascinated when I stumble across beautiful old vehicles. I've got lots and lots of pictures of them at this point.

Thanks for stopping by City of Dust!
